[WRAP UP] January, the first bookish wrap up of 2019!

Aaaaaand that’s a wrap, folks!

January has flown by and looking back to my bookish month, I’m quite pleased with it! 2019 took off great bookish wise: There’s lots I’ve read, lots of articles and book reviews I’ve published on the blog and so much more that I want to tell you about. Here we go!

I started this year by finishing an arc of Only the Negatives by Elle Thorpe, the third book in the Only You series and my first read of this author. I got aquatinted with this author thanks to my friend Marie from @mixed_matched_socks and I’m so thankful! This was such an enjoyable read and it left me craving more!

After that I finished reading Until you’re Mine by Cindi Madsen, the first book in the Fighting for her series. I’ve read and LOVED book 2, Until we’re more, last year so so much and rated it 5 stars, so I was hell bound on buying and reading the first book as well. Unfortunately this one didn’t entirely live up to its expectations due to some factors that irritated me regarding the characters and their choices. Overall though, it had enough enjoyable parts and I’d definitely want to read more in this series since I love the set-up of it all and there’s still another brother I desperately want to read about hehe.

Then I started and finished the Valiant by Lesley Livingston, book 1 in the Valiant trilogy. I buddy-read this book with Marie – whom I mentioned earlier – and it was yet again – this was a reread for me – such a magnificent reading experience. I absolutely loved reading Fallon’s story again and it’s also so much fun to talk about the book you’re currently reading, especially when you’re both loving the book! I can’t wait to do more buddy reads in the future. We’re doing one in February as well; we’re going to buddy-read the Defiant, its sequel, together with Isabelle and Candyce from the Bookductchesses.

Highland Crown by May McGoldrick, which is the first book in the Royal Highlander series, was my next book. This book is due to release on March 26th and I had the opportunity to read an ARC copy of it, which I couldn’t resist. I was in the mood to read a Historical romance that’s set in Scotland, so this one seemed like the perfect one to pick up then.It has been a while since I’ve read a Historical romance fiction book and I’m so glad I ended up enjoying it so much. I’m already really looking forward to reading its sequel, when the time comes it’ll release.

Private Prick by Ember Cole was an arc on my kindle that I started reading last week and I finished it within a day since it was more of a short story than a full length novel. It was fast-paced and had some likable elements but it wasn’t spectacular either. a fun in-between read.

I finally finished Ice like Fire by Sara Raasch, the second installment in the Snow like Ashes trilogy as well this month. This was a buddy-read that I did with Candyce & Isabelle from the Book duchesses. I got a couple of days behind on schedule because I originally had to finish the book last Wednesday but ultimately finished it in the weekend hihi. I felt quite contradictory towards this book. There were some really enjoyable elements in this book, but I’ve had some remarks as well. I’m really curious to see how it’ll end in the final installment, Frost like Night, which I’ll be buddy-reading with Candyce & Isabelle in March.

I finished reading Blood Laws by Lexi C. Foss, the third installment in the Immortal Curse series. This paranormal romance series has rapidly become one of my favorites, alongside the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh and the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter. This was such a fantastic read!!! It may be my favorite in the series so far and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

After Blood Heart, I finished my read of the Failing Hours by Sara Ney, the second installment in the How to date a Douchebag series. It was really enjoyable. I had some remarks here and there, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and I definitely want to continue with this series.

In between everything, I started reading Driven by K. Kromberg on the kindle. This was one I wanted to read for a while now since it looked interesting and Passionflix also made it into a movie, which I want to watch. Unfortunately, this book wasn’t my cup of tea. I had more remarks on this book to mention instead of positive things. I personally can’t see the appeal of the book. The trailer of the movie however looks really interesting so I may have to watch it indeed in the (nearby) future.

Armed ‘N Ready by Tee O’Fallon: I was originally planning to read it in February, but since I finished my January tbr early I decided to pick this one up last week. This was yet again a frigging wonderful read and I gave it a 5 star rating. It only had elements I loved like compelling writing, mystery and suspense, well developed characters and a magnificent romance. Enthralling read from beginning till end!

I also finished my re-read of a Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet, the first book in the Kingmaker Chronicles. This is one of my all-time favorite fantasy romance series and I can’t get enough of Amanda’s writing. This was my third time reading a Promise of Fire and it won’t be my last. This is a series I’ll be re-reading forever!

I also finished reading Forever my Girl by Heidi McLaughlin  the first book in the yesterday evening. I’m still not sure what to think and feel regarding this read. It was fast-paced and had some enjoyable elements. I liked the writing but there’s something about this story, the set up and some things happening, that didn’t really reel me in, you know?

I love getting replies from other readers/bloggers/etc. so of course I want to repay the favor as much as I possibly can. Even before I was blogging myself, I really liked discovering new blogs and I thought it would be a good idea to highlight a couple of the articles/bloggers I’ve enjoyed reading this month and include it in my wrap-up.

There were quite some articles I published last month. More than I thought possible, seeing my current situation at home with caring for my mother in law and her dog as well on top of my regular household stuff and my own family, lol. I published 49 articles in January, so that means my content of the blog is steadily growing, which I love a lot! I’ve only been back to blogging since mid-October ’18 and love that I’ve managed to add well over 100 articles to the blog already since then.

I’m quite excited about next month, bookish wise. There are some releases coming our way I’m really looking forward to. Some of those releases are one of my most highly anticipated ones like the Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros for example and Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller.

I also put together a new TBR and I’ll tell you more about that in a bit. I’m really excited about the books I plan to read next month. I’ll be doing a couple of buddy-reads as well, which is something I’ve come to love so much!

And I’m really looking forward to March 3rd. And normally I only look forward to the upcoming month, in this case February, but I had to make an exception here. I planned a meeting with one of my newly favorite authors, Lexi C. Fossthe author of among others the Immortal Curse serie that has become a favorite PNR series of mine – who’s in Amsterdam for some hours on March 3rd. I am so so so excited! I never though I’d be able to meet up with her, and then she told me she’s in Amsterdam in between traveling from the UK to France. I’m beyond words and so thankful that she’s going to meet up with us – I’m going with 2 friends of mine, Candyce and Wenda -, giving us some of her precious time!

I’m still waiting for my Flick the Wick January box to being delivered, so that’s definitely something I’m looking forward to. The box is inspired by Laini Taylor’s Strange the Dreamer books. And even though I haven’t read Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares yet, I’m still really excited about this box because I love this author and the books will Definitely be read sometime.

Illumicrate’s next box will release in February as well. Normally it’ll arrive within a week – they are located in the UK – so I’m hopeful I’ll be receiving it in February. I’m so excited about the box and can’t wait to see what book is going to be inside!

In the past, I always ranted about the fact that no matter how often I tried to read from a pre-made TBR stack, I was never able to stick to it. Somehow, January has been a month in which I succeeded in reading all of my January TBR books. I think putting down the tbr list in my bookish planner really helps out a lot here because I love checking off the books from the lists I put in the planner.

So for February I’m determined to make this work yet again! I always put up different kind of books, so I can still choose freely as to what kind of books I pick up. If I’m in the mood for romance instead of ya fantasy, there’s always something to choose from and vice versa.

I’ve planned to read 12 books, but already finished 2 of them since I had some time to spare in January, lol. In this list there are books I want to read that I bought myself, there are buddy reads I’m doing and Review books that’ll be read, hopefully 😉 Here’s my February TBR:

  • the Defiant by Lesley Livingston, #2 in the Valiant trilogy
BUDDY-READ with Marie, Candyce & Isabelle
