[UNBOXING] Illumicrate June: For Booklovers

Yesterday I received my June Illumicrate box, so it’s time for me to share my unboxing.

Illumicrate is a book box company located in the UK. I’ve been ordering boxes from them since October ’17 and so far they haven’t disappointed me yet with their choice in books and merchandise. The books I’ve read so far from their boxes, have become 5-star reads to me, so I can’t wait to see if the books in this month’s box are going to be just as good when I get around to read them.

Since a couple of months they started to do monthly boxes, yay yay yay! They also do special edition boxes, virtual signings every now and then, they have a pin subscription – they work together with FableAndBlack on this and they do book only now as well as Debut boxes. There’s just something for everyone! Definitely go check out their website/social media if you’re curious to know more about this company!

They decided to not use any fandoms as inspiration for the items in this box, but to create items for all book lovers in general, so that’s really cool I think.

There’s a Sampler inside of The Papers & Hearts Society by Lucie Powrie, which is the first book in a YA contemporary series. The synopsis looks really good and I can’t wait to read this sampler and see if I want to put in an order for the book. It matches the box perfectly seeing there are 2 contemporary books inside.

I’m not sure if a TBR jar is going to work for me, seeing I have way too many books to fit in this jar and seeing I’m a mood reader. But for people who really like using the jars, it’s a really great item! I’m planning on giving it a try sometime though. Maybe that I’ll put in books from 1 genre only, so I can pick one if I want to read a certain kind of genre. It is fun though to surprise yourself with what you’re going to read next, so it’s definitely something I want to use sometime in the future.

I love tapestries a lot! The design of this one is stunning. Unfortunately I don’t have any space in my house atm to hang tapestries. Well, technically I could hang them in the living room but I have a husband whose opinion I have to take into consideration as well, lol. Someday, I hope I’ll have a library room – it’s the goal haha – and then I’ll hang them on the wall. For now, it goes back into the box so I can store it.

I love using sticky notes when reading a book. Not only for the books I want to review though but favorite books in general as well. I love picking up a favorite book and see all those sticky notes sticking out at pages in which I loved to highlight something. These page flags are truly one of the best book related flags I’ve come across. I love the quotes on them and can’t wait to use them in a favorite book re-read in the future!

Book sleeves: You can’t have enough of those right? I love using them, because I always take a book with me when I go out the door and by using sleeves the books are a bit more protected inside my bag that has 10.000 of other items inside as well (ok, a bit of an exaggeration but you get me right? lol) But truly, they are so helpful!

This particular book sleeve is made of a material I haven’t come across before. It feels a bit like plastic? but then supple and it has a zip lock on top. This way, it’s completely protected from water since the material is water resistant. It’s perfect to take with you to the pool/beach. It happens to be that I’m going on vacation in 11 days so this one is definitely going to be used when I’m lying at the pool and beach. With wet children running around and splashing in the water, I can protect my book perfectly fine when I’m swimming myself and can’t look after it. I love this item so so much!

The people over at Illumicrate already announced there’d be a book end inside this box, as well as a matching one in the July box. I really love this idea of adding book ends to boxes! I love bookends, even though I barely have any space on my shelves right now to put them, lol. I love the design of this one with the silhouette outcropping. I really need to create some space on my shelves to showcase this one and the one that I’ll receive next month.

I can’t stop mentioning how much I love the collectible coins that Illumicrate started adding to their boxes since a couple of months. They started with a Rhysand one, that came with a necklace. The coins have a magnet on the back so you can add them to your necklace and you can switch the coins whenever you feel like. You can also use the coins as magnet to put on a board or your fridge or whatever. I really love it a lot! So far we got Rhysand, Kady Grant from Illuminae and now Hermione! I hope they’ll continue with the collectible coins for months to come *heart eyes*

The first book I come across is Birthday by Meredith Russo, which is a beautiful paperback that has rainbow colored sprayed edges. It also comes with a bookmark and signed bookplate, so awesome! This YA contemporary looks so promising and I can’t wait to read it. It’s a book with a message I believe and looks like it’s going to be really emotional too!

Boyhood meets The Sun Is Also a Star in this unconventional love story by award-winning author Meredith Russo!

Two kids, Morgan and Eric, are bonded for life after being born on the same day at the same time. We meet them once a year on their shared birthday as they grow and change: as Eric figures out who he is and how he fits into the world, and as Morgan makes the difficult choice to live as her true self. Over the years, they will drift apart, come together, fight, make up, and break up—and ultimately, realize how inextricably they are a part of each other.

This YA contemporary is another one I’m really excited about to read. I hadn’t come across it before I saw it in the box and normally I’m always really surprised, in a good way, when reading books Illumicrate picks that I wasn’t familiar with yet. I also really love the looks of this one. It’s a beautiful hardcover edition that has exclusive sprayed edges in the same yellow as the title on the cover and it comes with an author letter and signed bookplate.

Katsuyamas never quit—but seventeen-year-old CJ doesn’t even know where to start. She’s never lived up to her mom’s type A ambition, and she’s perfectly happy just helping her aunt, Hannah, at their family’s flower shop.

She doesn’t buy into Hannah’s romantic ideas about flowers and their hidden meanings, but when it comes to arranging the perfect bouquet, CJ discovers a knack she never knew she had. A skill she might even be proud of.

Then her mom decides to sell the shop—to the family who swindled CJ’s grandparents when thousands of Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps during WWII. Soon a rift threatens to splinter CJ’s family, friends, and their entire Northern California community; and for the first time, CJ has found something she wants to fight for.

To me, this is probably one of the best boxes Illumicrate has done so far. I am 100% on board with the books they’ve picked. The fact that there are 2 books inside is just awesome and both in such beautiful editions. The items they put in the box are all awesome and will all be used at one point or another. They’re all of good quality. I can’t say anything other than that I am so in love with this box. It’s amazing! I also really love that they put in collectibles and things like a book end set that they spread over different boxes. They keep surprising me with every new box that comes my way so I am already looking forward to see what July’s box is going to be like. For now, I’ll just continue loving on this box for a while hihi.
