[TAG TIME THURSDAY] A-Z book tag

I came across this A-Z book tag over at Librae Paints Pagesgo give her a blog a visit. She has such great content and her way of writing is really awesome! – and thought it was a fun tag to do so I decided to do it myself as well. Here we go!

D1

AUTHOR YOU’VE READ THE MOST BOOKS FROM

Jennifer L. Armentrout and Cassandra Clare. I don’t think anyone is surprised by this fact haha. If Sarah J. Maas would’ve had more published books at this point, she would’ve been in this little list as well, lol.

BEST SEQUEL EVER

It doesn’t happen that often I think when a sequel is so much better than the first book since ‘middle book syndrome’ is something that occurs quite regularly. But I think that especially some of my favorite authors have written sequels that are outstanding and that are even better than the first book like – I’ve focused only on #2 books in series;

CURRENTLY READING

I’m currently reading (It’s October 31st when writing the article) Evergreen Springs by RaeAnne Thayne. It’s a perfect in-between read; lighthearted, it has a Christmas setting and a Happily Ever After. I haven’t been able to focus much on reading in the past days so it’s going very slowly. I’m planning on starting my Lady Midnight re-read after this one.

DRINK OF CHOICE WHILE READING

Tea, no doubt about it haha. Or hot chocolate milk when it’s Autumn/Winter but I try to minimalize that because of all the sugars in it, lol. But once in a while I definitely like a cup of hot chocolate milk. Mostly I drink tea though.

E-READER OR PHYSICAL BOOKS

Well, most of the time I prefer having a physical book in my hands but there are times when I prefer reading on my kindle though. And other than that; I just couldn’t imagine not having books in my home to look at every day haha. So physical books all the way I guess, but I do prefer the reading part of it, on my kindle sometimes as well.

GLAD YOU GAVE THIS BOOK A CHANCE

The ‘a Pound of Flesh’ books by Sophie Jackson. If it weren’t for the fact that I got an opportunity to meet and interview this author back in 2017, I don’t know how long it would’ve taken me to buy and read her books. At the time they weren’t that high on my wishlist – I was interested in them but they weren’t a priority you know? – and in hindsight, I’m so glad I read them because I was asked to do an interview with her. I’ve read them all back to back – LOVED them!

HIDDEN GEM BOOK

I have several Hidden Gem books I want to mention. I chose a couple of books from different genres and ones that I’ve read before 2018 so I can give some older books a bit more love and attention.

Atlantis: the King’s return by D.K. Combs
This is sort of a little mermaid re-telling but it has an adult romance written into it. I love everything about this book; the world/setting, the characters, the romance. There is some awesome humor present and great writing in general. It was addictive right from the start and I think this is definitely a hidden gem. If you like reading fantasy/paranormal romance books, this one needs to be placed on top of your tbr!
First Touch by Laurelin Paige
This erotic/romance read is such a wonderful read! The female lead isn’t a typical ‘deer in the headlight’ kind of woman when it comes to the erotic scene and I loved that. She knows what she wants and how she wants it and that was really refreshing to read. Other than that, I love the ‘dark’ edges in this story-line. This is probably the best first book in an erotic series I’ve ever read!
a Court of Nightfall by Karpov Kinrade
This ya fantasy book is the start of a series and it is EPIC. Just EPIC. This is that kind of book that easily could’ve become a Hype had it been published by a publishing house instead of being self-published by the authors. I wish this book would receive more attention and love because it is so deserving of it. One of my most favorite reads of 2017 and I can’t recommend it enough!

IMPORTANT MOMENT IN YOUR READING LIFE

Getting acquainted with the Harry Potter world back when I was younger has been really important. And my reading experience of Fighting for Everything by Laura Kaye – I’ve read this one earlier this year – has been a key moment in my life as well for some very personal reasons. This book has done so much for me. But discovering Cassandra Clare and Sarh J. Maas have been so important to me as well. These authors all changed my life for the best, each in their own way, and I’m so thankful!

And all of the authors meet & greets have been so special. Especially meeting Mary e. Pearson, Gena Showalter, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Sarah J. Maas have been really important to me.

JUST FINISHED

Just finished reading Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson (When writing this article on October 31st)

KINDS OF BOOKS I WON’T READ

I try to read diverse books but some genres/subjects I don’t particularly care much about so I don’t go looking for those; books with a strongly presented religion and I barely read any thrillers anymore. Whereas when I was younger, I devoured one thriller after another, I haven’t really read them in years and don’t really care about them anymore. There are some I am curious about but somehow I still haven’t read them haha.

LONGEST BOOK YOU’VE READ

At the moment, that’s definitely Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas -> 992 pages

MAJOR BOOK HANGOVER BECAUSE OF

Do you have a minute? or an hour? There have been many reads throughout the years that were the cause of me having a book hangover. Let’s start with some older books; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Rapture by Lauren Kate. Then there’s also; Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead, Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor and Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare – worst book hangover EVER, I’m still suffering from it even when it’s been 5 years since I read this book for the first time, lol. And I have to mention Hallowed Ground by Rebecca Yarros as well as Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven.

And my latest; Kingdom of Ash. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from this reading experience. Reading this book, knowing this was IT, an end of an era… I still can’t fathom it all. I’m still not ready to say goodbye to this world and these characters.

NUMBER OF BOOKCASES YOU OWN

In my living room, you can find 4 billy cases from IKEA and 1 smaller billy case. And then I have another billy case in my bedroom upstairs.

ONE BOOK YOU HAVE READ MULTIPLE TIMES

There’s more than one actually haha. I re-read books a LOT. The list is endless at this point, so I won’t bore you with it, lol. Some of the books I’ve re-read the most up until now: The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare, Throne of Glass books by Sarah J. Maas, Flight & Glory series by Rebecca Yarros, Ten Tiny Breaths series by K.A. Tucker, Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh, November 9 by Colleen Hoover and Harry Potter.

PREFERRED PLACE TO READ

I love reading outdoors from time to time when the weather isn’t too cold or anything, but mostly I just prefer reading on the couch.

QUOTE THAT INSPIRES YOU/GIVE YOU ALL THE FEELS
FROM A BOOK YOU HAVE READ

There are so many bookish quotes that are inspiring but there’s one, in particular, that has gotten to me, right when I needed to read this book most. I’m talking about;

“IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU”
– Fighting for Everything by Laura Kaye

This quote was the inspiration for my first tattoo that I got in October; that’s how much it means to me.

c1bfa6a1-bc94-42b3-b434-91c5f418728a

Other than that, I always find Cassandra Clare’s quotes to be inspiring as well. Her words do something to me on a fundamental level. She has such a beautiful way with words!

READING REGRET

Unpopular opinion coming through; the Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I didn’t like this book…at all. I could’ve lived without ever having read this book, lol – don’t shoot me.

SERIES YOU STARTED AND NEED TO FINISH

So many haha. I read a lot, but because there’s always so much I want to read still, I often don’t get around to finish series back to back – whether it’s due to not all of the books being published yet or that I just hadn’t gotten around to buy and read the books yet. Some series I still need to finish or still need to read up until the latest release:
– the Wicked trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout
– Lord of the Underworlds by Gena Showalter
– Psy Changeling by Nalini Singh
– Snow like Ashes trilogy by Sara Raasch
– Nevernight series by Jay Kristoff
– Alienated series by Melissa Landers
– the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson

THREE OF YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE BOOKS

Gods, I hate these sort of questions because I don’t want to choose between favorites. So, I’ll choose 3, but you have to keep in mind that there are so many more I could’ve chosen as well;

UNAPOLOGETIC FANGIRL FOR

– ranting about favorite books
– ranting about favorite authors
– ranting about how I love all of the book merchandise out there
– buying all the books while having a TBR stack that’s going through the roof

VERY EXCITED FOR THIS RELEASE MORE THAN ALL THE OTHERS

At the moment that’s definitely the release of Queen of Air and Darkness that I’m most excited about!

WORST BOOKISH HABIT

Don’t know if it actually counts as being the worst habit. I guess it depends on how you look at it, lol. But: buying books, when I have a TBR of 200+ of physical books alongside let’s say 300+ e-books? Yeah, I got issues, lol.

X MARKS THE SPOT: START AT THE TOP LEFT OF
YOUR SHELF AND PICK UP THE 27TH BOOK

Since I own several bookcases I decided to pick the 27th book of each of my 4,5 Billy bookcases in my living room;
– Unraveling Destiny by Amelia Hutchins
– Skullsworn by Brian Staveley
– a Shadow bright and burning by Jessica Cluess
– Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
– Between the Heart and the Blade by Amanda Hocking

YOUR LATEST BOOK PURCHASE

The latest book I bought was the Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic by Emily Croy Barker. I bought this one as a gift for the person who won my Instagram giveaway a few months ago but her package never arrived so I bought it again and hope it’s all going to work out this time around.

ZZZ-SNATCHER BOOK (LAST BOOK THAT KEPT YOU UP WAY TOO LATE)

That has been Kingdom of Ash. Finished it late into the night. Couldn’t stop reading and I needed some extra time when finishing because I couldn’t stop crying and didn’t want to scare my husband when I got to bed, lol – he picked up my mountain of tissues the next morning so he knew… he knew… lol

This was such a fun tag to do! Feel free to do it yourself in your blog if you like it.

What was the last book that kept you up way too late?

With Love,

Such an enjoyable post, Melissa! I’m really glad that you did this tag, and I hope that you enjoyed writing this post! Honestly, I completely feel ya on not liking the Cruel Prince – I don’t really understand the hype? (Holy Black stans don’t kill me). I can’t believe we’re less than a month away until the release of queen of air and darkness ahhhh. Also, thank you so much for your kind comments and linking to my post – you’re so sweet, and sending my love ❤ Happy reading!

So happy to come across more and more readers who didn’t like the Cruel Prince since I normally get almost banned by people when telling them I didn’t like it, lol. And omg yes; Queen of air and Darkness.. My current re-read of Lady Midnight is killing me slowly, lol. All of the TID references, the amazing characters like Emma, Jules and the blackthorns. And knowing how intens Lord of Shadows is going to get… November is all about the dark artifices hihi.

You really need to finish Wicked!! It’s so amazing and then start the Prince😁

The last book that kept me up to late was Blood Bond saga by Helen Hardt and then part 8. Because I was reading part 7 and finished it at 1 am and started part 8 right after

    1. MelissasFandomWorld

ahhh yes I really need to finish reading that trilogy! But I still need to buy Brave – oops. I put it on one of my Christmas wish lists though so I’m hoping I’ll be getting it for Christmas.

on the one hand I love it when books are able to keep you up late but on the other hand; I regret it so much the day after when Milan is up early hahaha. Haven’t heard of the Blood Bond saga before I believe. Have to look it up.

Thank you! And the covers are indeed something one could be drawn to! I have the Dutch covers, which are completely different haha but I like these ones way more so maybe I’ll buy them in English as well someday 🙂

Thank you :)! Hadn’t heard of the Black Swan Affair yet but I’m definitely going to check it out. Curious to see what book exactly kept you up late at night 🙂 And I love a good angsty adult romance <3 So I’m probably going to add it to my tbr haha.
