I was in search of a Friday meme article and came across this one over at Tenacious Reader’s blog and fell in love at the spot.
What kind of article is Friday Firsts?
It will feature the first few sentences/paragraph of my current book and my first impressions as well. It’s meant to be a quick and easy way to share a bit about what I am reading, and I would love to hear others join in sharing their current reads as well.
The format is really simple. Include a quote. Include first impressions, it will not be a long drawn out analysis of the text or grand speculation of what is to come. Just a brief overview of how I’m feeling about the beginning of the book.

Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh
#11 in the Guild Hunter series
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published by Gollancz on October 30th, 2018
About the Guild Hunter series:
Nalini Singh introduces readers to a world of beauty and bloodlust, where angels hold sway over vampires.
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux is hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael. But this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break.
First Paragraphs
Elena noticed the sparrows with the periphery of her mind. The small birds were dipping and dancing beyond the Tower windows, their wings nearly brushing the glass. For a second, she felt the chill on the back of her neck, but then the sparrows flew off to do sparrow business and she realized she was being paranoid. Just because the city’s birds had gone all creepy and otherworldly once didn’t mean every sparrow was a harbinger.
Sometimes a bird was just a bird.
She returned to her Scrabble death match with Vivek.
Ten minutes later, the two of them were taking n insane amount of pleasure arguing over a word when Sara called to ask her to track a young vampire who thought he could skip out on his Contract. “Why?” she said to both Sarah and Vivek, after putting the conversation on speaker. “Because you’re a Guild Hunter, and we find and haul back runaway vampires,” was Sara’s dry response. “If you don’t know that by now, Ellie, there’s no hope for you.”
First Impressions
So far, it’s been a wonderful read, as I’ve come to expect when it’s written by Nalini Singh. Book 11 in the series, and still Nalini is able to keep it exciting and renewing. In this book, we’re back to following one of the lead characters, whom we met in the first book; Elena (there are books in which we focus on other characters). I’m really curious to see how the story-line continues since there’s a mystery present I really want to unravel. The story-line so far has me really engrossed and I hope it continues being this interesting!
