[BOOKISH ARTICLE] Goodreads 2018 re-cap + 2019 goal

I always like looking back to my Goodreads challenge and I love the lay-out of their ‘journey’ stats page so there was no way I wasn’t going to write an article on it. In today’s article I’ll be reflecting a bit on my Goodreads 2018 challenge as well as looking forward to 2019.

| STATS |

I can’t say I’m disappointed with these stats haha. I mean; I’ve read 222 books and almost 72.000 pages. I never thought it possible I’d be able to finish so many books in a year haha! Okay, so some of them are short stories and things like that, but still…

Originally, I set my 2018 goal at 100 books because I didn’t think at the beginning of 2018 that I’d be able to finish even that. But then I stopped blogging for a while and I started reading a lot of romance books. Those are mostly always fast-paced reads so I got through them rather quickly. Not being busy with blogging and things like that, made sure I got to read even more. I believe I reached my Goodreads goal back in May 2018 already haha!

I love to see favorite authors of mine appear in the stats, like Cassandra Clare – especially love seeing that this particular short story has gotten the highest ratings out of all the books I’ve read, whoop whoop. This shows that talented authors can make short stories work! – and Sarah J. Maas. I’m surprised to see though that Cinder is the most popular one since I’ve also read a lot of Maas and Clare books in 2018 and I automatically thought they’d be more popular but I guess not, lol.

Cinder was a really fun read so I can imagine why it got so popular and I can’t say I’m surprised to see that Wrapped up in you is the least popular. I believe I gave it a 2-star rating, yikes.

My average rating comes down to a 4.1 which is really nice I think, seeing the amount of books I’ve read. That shows that I’ve read more books that I loved than not so that’s definitely something I’m happy about!

I started 2018 off really good by reading Destiny on Ice, the first book in the Boys of Winter series by S.R. Grey who has become a favorite romance author of mine. What better way to start off the year than by reading a 5-star read, am I right ;)? I’m really excited that this book is going to be published in Dutch over here in the Netherlands as well. I hope my fellow Dutchies are going to love this book/series as much as I do!

And the last review of 2018 has also been a romance book haha. Also one that involves hockey players – I have a ‘thing’ for hockey players it seems, lol. Well, not sorry haha. THEY ARE HOT! The off-campus series has been such a joy to read so far and this second book was so frigging addictive! I cannot wait to continue reading the series in 2019!

I thought about putting down my entire ‘books read’ list in here but well, 222 books is a lot haha so I decided to just put a link in here to my Goodreads 2018 page on the blog, on which I put down a list. So if you’re interested to see all the books I’ve read in 2018, including the ratings they received, just click on the link below!

| 2019 READING CHALLENGE |ย

I’ve been a Goodreads challenge participant for many years now and so far I’ve always accomplished my goals. But knowing I have to pick up more of my study this year and some other things that I already have scheduled, I don’t think I’ll be able to finish 200 books. But I wrote down 200 in my bookish planner and since I don’t want to scratch it and re-write it down I decided to go with it, haha. Who knows… Maybe I’ll be able to finish reading 200 – I may have to add some more short stories or something like that to my tbr hihi – and if not, that’s okay as well. We’ll see how it goes! It has to be a challenge after all, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ hihiย

Have you completed your 2018 reading goal?
Have you set one for 2019 and if so, how many books do you want to read?

I completed my 100 book reading goal but I also think this year will present unique challenges to reading more. I think I’ll keep mine at 100 again because I kind of felt pressured to read things even if I wasn’t in the mood to make sure I hit the goal lol. I also haven’t read Cinder but keep seeing so many great things – I need to pick it up!

I’ve read 215 books in 2018 and passed my challenge is 150 in October. My goal for 2019 is 175. Last year I had a reading slump for 3 months and with my other hobby, watching movies and my favorite tv shows, I don’t want to set my goal to high this year.

215 is a really frigging nice amount of books, NICE! Hope you’re going to surpass your challenge this year as well! Seeing how well you did in 2018, I’m positive you’re going to at least accomplish your goal before the end of 2019!

In combination with studying, being a mom and wife, watching movies, other hobbies and the occasional reading slump, I’m afraid this year isn’t going to be the year I’ll complete my goal of 200. Maybe I’ll adjust it, I’m still in doubt haha.

I have no idea either how I managed to finish so many books. As I said, the not-blogging helped because blogging takes up a lot of time for me since I create a lot of headers and dividers and such for my layouts and things like that.

I’ve read like 140 books in 2017 so I never thought I’d be hitting the 200 books, let alone top it haha!

These are amazing stats! I loved Cinder! I hope you continue with the Lunar series! So good! I’m currently on Winter. Wow, over 200 books! I have never read that many in a year. I would love to reach those stats but I don’t see it happening anytime soon but never know! I get more and more each year! I did like 130 this year and I was very pleased with that!

ahh thanks for the lovely reply!!
And 130 books is such a terrific number though!! Curious to see how many you’ll be able to read this year. I don’t think I’ll actually be able to finish 200 this year, but we’ll see haha.
I’ll see how far behind or on schedule I am in a couple of months and maybe I’ll adjust the number back to 150 or so. And I’m so excited to continue the Lunar Chronicles! Still need to buy everything from book 2 first haha. Hopefully soon.

My goal last year was 100 books, and I read 128. I made it 50 this year. I think I’ll read more than that – especially since I want to read more graphic novels, etc. but I also feel like I’m going to have less reading time in general this year so that will make things tough. I don’t worry about the Goodreads goal much though. It’s fun, but I just like seeing what I read in a year. Great job on your 2018 goal!

Same as you though. The Goodreads challenge is more fun than anything else. If, in a couple of months, I’ll discover that I’m way behind on the challenge, I’ll readjust the goal number back to 150 or so I think.

And that’s awesome that you surpassed your 100 goal and managed to read 128, that’s a really nice number! I want to read more graphic as well. And short stories can help a lot too hihi. I always read like an average of 10 short stories per year or so I guess.
