[BOOK REVIEW] Coldhearted Boss by R.S. Grey

I say this every time I get to read a new book by this author: It was such a good reading experience. When Rachel announced ‘Coldhearted Boss’ everyone, including me of course, got so excited because we all know how awesome Rachel is in writing the haters-to-lovers trope. The expectations were set high. Did she enamor me again this time around? Find out down below.

I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.

Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.

Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:
I know my boss.

Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.

Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.

He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.

It’s torture, all of it—his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.
Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.

A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.
My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck.
My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.

4,5 beautiful stars to this new RS Grey book that had me laughing out loud and finishing it within a day because it was so fast paced and addictive. Once started, I was never able to put it aside until I was finished, which seems to becoming a ritual when reading one of her books. Don’t you just love it when you know that whenever you pick up a book by a certain author, you can be assured it’ll be a frigging awesome read? Rachel is one of those authors to me. I’m really grateful for having had the chance to read and review an ARC of this upcoming release.

This was a perfect in between contemporary office/work romance which had a haters-to-lovers element wrapped up in it as well. Rachel is SO good in the haters-to-lovers trope and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this one.

Ethan and Taylor were oil and fire together, in the best and sometimes worst way possible hihi. And even though I did feel like it was a bit of a shame that these two had such hateful feelings for one another that sometimes went on too long because of a misunderstanding and because both of them were just being stubborn (Ethan mostly though: MEN, am I right? Sigh), it was so nicely wrapped up in the end that it was forgiven haha.

What to say about these two main characters hehe?
I absolutely loved reading from both POV’s. Taylor could be so devious at times, I loved it haha. She really knew how to push his buttons to the max and reading her thoughts and seeing her react to Ethan was so much fun!

And Ethan… It was so funny at times to see him struggle, the poor dude haha, lol. To fight his feelings and attractions for Taylor while trying to undermine her the entire time and especially; to try his damnest to hate her and failing < I loved it.

The banter was amazing and the tension between Ethan and Taylor was so frigging palpable that it had my stomach tied in knots the entire read. The romance development was intense, hot and my feelings were all over the place when reading it. I was SO invested in this story right from the start. I was rooting so hard for these two characters. They are an amazing addition to the R.S. Grey book world.

And, as always, I’m such a fan of the rest of the characters. The minor characters that we come across were a great addition to the story and I loved reading about them. Whenever I read a book by Grey, I’m always hoping she’ll add some books about minor characters as well, that’s how much I fall in love with them as well.

Little side note; I came across this statement in another review and I do think there’s some truth in there though; Rachel’s books, especially the latest releases, all have a lot of similarity between them and therefore its sometimes hard to keep the characters apart because they often are so alike. But on the other hand: seeing that the reads are always entertaining and the writing is just really addictive and good, and I always really like the characters, I don’t mind this a lot. I think the base of Rachel’s writing is just really good. She has a own way of writing and this makes her really recognizable which is important when you write romance. But I can imagine that one thinks after reading a lot of them back to back that it starts to feel like they’re all the same. But it also provides you with a certainty that you always know what you get when this author comes with a new book and if you like her writing, it’s just wonderful knowing there’s another great reading coming your way!

Picking up a Grey book always makes me so happy! She never disappoints you know? You can always be sure of the fact that when you pick up a book written by her, it’s going to provide you with such an amazing reading experience. This contemporary romance is the perfect pick to anyone who likes office/work romances and who especially loves a really well executed haters-to-lovers romance. It is funny, it is heart warming, it’s intense and steamy. Simply said; It’s R.S. Grey you guys, Queen of RomCom!!! This is THE perfect book to pick up this summer! (Or any time really, lol)

Thanks for Reading!
