[BEAT THE BACKLIST 2019] My TBR list, part 2

Last week, I published an article about the Beat the Backlist challenge, hosted by Novel Knight, in which I announced that I was going to participate in 2019’s challenge. Today I want to share the books I’m going to put on the tbr for this challenge.

I decided to split the list in 2 categories;
– books that were published in 2018
– and books that were published prior to 2018

This, so that I can tackle some of the older released books as well since I kind of failed at finishing my 2018 beat the backlist challenge and there are still a lot of prior to 2018 released books on my tbr at the moment hihi.

In last weeks’ article I shared the 2018 released books list that I want to finish reading for Beat the Backlist and today I’ll show you the books published prior to 2018-list

| The prior to 2018 released books I want to read |

◊ Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

nevernightkopie

Twice… Twice now, that I’ve picked up this book, started reading it and haven’t finish it yet. And it isn’t due to me not liking it, because I really love this book so much from what I’ve read so far. But somehow, it’s just often too much too focus on you know? I just can’t seem to find the right time to finish reading this book, even though I really want to. So, 2019 is going to be the year I’m going to re-read and finish this book! *positive thinking

◊ the Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano

glass spare

This is a book that I received for Christmas last year, and I still haven’t read it yet, yikes. It still sounds super interesting to me and it makes me really excited to start reading it, but somehow it’s one of those books that I just don’t pick up, somehow? I really want to read it in 2019, so I decided to put it on the Beat the Backlist tbr!

◊ Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

stalking

I bought this book somewhere in 2017 – it was released in 2016 – and I had every intention of reading it in 2017 as well because I was so excited for this book. I’m so intrigued by the Jack the Ripper story so I was really curious to read a re-telling about Jack the Ripper. And of course there’s a past London setting so that alone screams ‘It’s a Melissa read’. But yeah, it’s almost 2019 now and I still haven’t read it and I’m really bummed about it. Hopefully 2019 will be my Stalking Jack the Ripper year then!

◊ One with You by Sylvia Day

one with youkopie

One with you, the conclusion to the Bared to You series by Sylvia Day. A series that I fell in love with so many years ago, when the first book was being released. I’ve devouuuuured book 1-3, was a bit disappointed by book 4, but so very much determined to finish reading the series because I wanted to see how Eva & Gideon’s story would end. I needed them to get their happy ending once and for all. I really lived towards this release so how could I not have read it yet? Hopefully 2019 will be the year when I finally read this final installment in the series then.

◊ Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

strange

Boy o boy, do I feel ashamed for putting this book on the list for 2019. Ever since reading the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy years ago, I’ve been so enamored by Laini’s writing. I couldn’t get enough of it. When she announced she was writing Strange the Dreamer I was so frigging excited and put in a pre-order for the book asap. Now it’s almost 2019, almost 2 years after the release of Strange the Dreamer and we already have a sequel that’s out in the world. I should be ashamed of myself for calling myself a Laini Taylor fangirl. It’s the same as not having read Catwoman by Sarah J. Maas yet either, yikes #SoPainful

◊ Without Merit by Colleen Hoover

without meritkopie

Without Merit is one of few I still need to read by this author. Ever since getting aquatinted with this author, I’ve been dying to buy and read all of her other books asap. This one is said to be quite different from what she’s written so far seeing it’s YA for example. I’m really curious to find out what I’ll think of it. 2019 is hopefully The year I’ll be getting my answer.

◊ What happened by Hillary Clinton

what happenedkopie

I love reading books like these, written by people I find so very interesting. I don’t get around to actually read them that often because other books somehow always seem to get in between but I reaaaally want to read this one so adding it to my beat the backlist tbr is a good move I guess. Let’s hope I’ll actually read it as well, lol. This is that kind of book that could easily sit on my shelf unread for years, sigh.

◊ the City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

city of brasskopie

I received an arc of the City of Brass in one of my Illumicrate boxes before the release of the book and I was sooo excited! The synopsis sounds like it’s going to be a really great fantasy read and I have high hopes of liking this one when I finally get around to read it. Can’t wait to ‘tackle’ this one in 2019!

◊ Frostblood by Elly Blake

frostbloodkopie

This is one of those books that I pre-ordered before it’s release because it just sounded like it was going to be an amazing read, but haven’t gotten around to read yet, lol. In the meantime book 2 and 3 are already published as well so yikes, another painful one this is haha. Still excited to read it though so I think it’s about damn time I’m going to read this one, hopefully asap in 2019.

◊ Before she Ignites by Jodi Meadows

ignites

I received this beauty from a friend of mine for my birthday and I am really excited about it. This author has been on my wishlist for so long now and I’ve read the Lady Janies books in which she writes alongside 2 other authors, but I haven’t read a full length book she has written by herself. This book sounds like such an intriguing read and I can’t wait to read it! It’s a perfect one to add to my beat the backlist tbr I think!

◊ ROAR by Cora Carmack

roar

Another book that sounds like it’s, hopefully, going to be a book I’d really enjoy and I’m excited to find out if that’ll turn out to be true when reading it. I’ve been wanting to read this author for ages – she writes New Adult/contemporary Romance as well – and this will be my first read of Cora Carmack. Definitely one I really hope to finish reading in 2019.

◊ the Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

the final empirekopie

Another book, just as Nevernight, that I’ve picked up twice but haven’t finished reading yet. And again; not because I don’t like it but I just always seem to start reading it when I’m not in the right mind-set you know? This bums me out so much because I really liked what I’ve read so far of this world and can’t wait to see how this story will unfold.

◊ the Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima

demon kingkopie

The first book in a series – the Seven Realms – that I’ve heard so many good things about! I bought a box set of the series and I am so in love with the stunning covers of these books. I really hope I’m going to love reading it as much as I love looking at it, lol.

◊ the Great Pursuit by Wendy Higgins

pursuitkopie

The sequel to the Great Hunt, a book that I really enjoyed reading back in the day. I put in a pre-order for its sequel but it’s been quite a while since I read the Great Hunt so I want to do a re-read of that book first and then I hope to finish reading the Great Pursuit right away. I’m excited to see how this duology is going to end!

◊ One Blood Ruby by Melissa Marr

blood ruby

This is the sequel to Seven Black Diamonds, a young adult fantasy book with fae/faeries and magic and amazing characters. I loved Seven Black Diamonds so much but I am so bummed out for not having read its sequel yet, the final installment in the duology. This is a book I reaaaaaally want to read in 2019!

◊ Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

glass swordkopie

I’ve been talking about giving this series a second chance after feeling disappointed with the first part of this book, but that has been ages ago since I’ve said that and I haven’t done anything about it yet haha. So in 2019, I really want to start reading this second book again and then finish at as well!

◊ Scythe by Neal Shusterman

scythekopie

I’ve been hearing such great things about this book! I remember very well, right after its release that this book wasn’t so hyped yet and that I really wanted to buy and read it. Somehow, I never got around to actually buy it until I received it for my birthday a couple of months ago and in the meantime book 2 is already released as well, lol. Can’t wait to dive into this book!

◊ Ice like Fire by Sara Raasch

ice like firekopie

Snow like Ashes, the first book in the trilogy, was such an enjoyable read and I’ve started reading Ice like Fire, its sequel, right after its release but then I got hit with a reading slump. So I put it aside and haven’t picked it up since. But I really want to finish reading this trilogy since I really liked the settings in this book and the characters. I’m debating wether or not to re-read Snow like Ashes first though…

◊ Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

sleeping giantskopie

Another book that has been on my wishlist every since it’s release and one I didn’t purchase until earlier this year. In the meantime, the trilogy is completed so there’s a good thing to me not having started reading it yet haha. Now I can binge-read it, if I end up loving it. I’ve been hearing great things about this book. It looks like it’s my kind of read and I can’t wait to find out if I end up loving it.

◊  Torn by Jennifer L. Armentrout

tornkopie

I fell in love so much with Wicked, the first book in the trilogy. I loved the fantasy/magic elements and the characters are so so amazing! When I received Torn I started reading it but somehow I just haven’t finished it yet. So I really want to re-start this second book in the Wicked trilogy and finish it in 2019, as well as book 3.

6a00d8341c61d353ef0192abf21e6b970d

So this was part 2 of my Beat the Backlist TBR, which consists of books released prior to 2018. 20 books… Can’t wait to start tackling these books. I’m determined to check off all 40 books on my Beat the Backlist tbr. Let’s see if I’m able to then haha. I’ll be writing updates every 2/3 months or so on the books I finished reading from these tbr lists.

Aside from Goodreads; are you setting other reading goals in 2019? Like this one? Or maybe another one? And are there any books that I showed today, you’ve already read?

Love to hear from you and thank you so much for reading!

With Love,
Melissa ♥

I am very curious about what you will think of Without Merit. I am u huge Colleen Hoover fan, but I hated every minute of it.

Also curious about Nevernight en Strange the Dreamer, because they are two of my all time favourites. Can’t wait to see what you think of them!

    1. MelissasFandomWorld

I’m really curious as well about Without Merit since I’ve heard mixed things about it!
And what I’ve read so far of Nevernight was soooo good so I really hope I get around to start re-reading and finishing it soon. Same goes for Strange the Dreamer! I’ve read a couple of chapters earlier this year… I really want to finish this book <3 Thanks for your reply 🙂

Curious to see which books will end up on your beat the backlist tbr! I thought this was the best way to tackle 2018 releases but also some of the older ones. I have high hopes of completing the 2019 challenge haha.

    1. MelissasFandomWorld

ohh, I’m quite curious to see what you’ll think of her writing! But it’s really tricky though because of her diversity in books. Some are more YA focuses, some more adult focused and so on. I’m especially excited to see what you’d think of November 9, Ugly Love or It ends with us, which are my favorites by her. Hope you get around to read her books some day 🙂

  2. Jo Linsdell

Great selection of books. I planned to do, and did do a bit for beat the backlist, but failed miserably. Still have way to many books sat in my tbr and I forgot to do updates for the challenge. I did read a lot of books that weren’t on my list though.

    1. MelissasFandomWorld

hahaha exactly the same thing happened to me this year! I failed so miserably with the beat the backlist challenge this year, while I finished reading over 200 books.. How was I not able to finish my beat the backlist tbr? Its beyond me, lol. Are you planning to participate in 2019?

  3. Bewitched Reader Book Blog

I have a list of books that have been on my TBR for a while that I want to get through in 2019! Maybe i’ll participate in this challenge. Several of these I’ve already read and they are really good. Several others are also on my TBR!
