[BEAT THE BACKLIST 2019] Intro

Even though I failed miserably at succeeding in the Beat the Backlist 2018 challenge, I decided to sign up for 2019’s edition again. Why? I’m determined to succeed in next year’s edition, since I really really really want to tackle some books on my (prior) 2018 releases tbr and this challenge is hopefully going to help me with this and keep me motivated throughout the year. I always like connecting with other people during readathons and things like that and this beat the backlist community is really awesome I think, so I’m looking forward to being a participant in 2019!

I decided to copy and paste some of the information on this beat the backlist challenge so you can get a better idea of what it’s all about. The information below is originated from Novelknight.com

The book must have been published in 2018 or earlier to count. It can be in any format (including an ARC/eARC) as long as the release date is earlier than 2019.

You have to start and finish the book in 2019 to count it. Any books started in 2018 and finished in 2019 do not count. Any books started in 2019 and finish in 2020 also do not count.

The challenge runs from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019
(your local time)

What counts as a “book” for this challenge?

Any novel, novella, graphic novel, manga, or anthology bind-up counts for this challenge. If it’s considered a book on Goodreads, it’s fair game! They can be in any format as well (print, eBook, audiobook, etc).

I started a book in 2018 and finished it in 2019. Does it count?

No. Only books started and finished in 2019 will count for this challenge but don’t let that stop you from finishing any books started prior to 2019!

Do re-reads of backlist books count?

Yes! As long as you started re-reading the book in 2019 it will count for the challenge. But remember, this challenge is about knocking books of your TBR so don’t forget about the books you haven’t read yet!

POST your backlist TBR for the year somewhere online! This can be in the form of a blog post, instagram photo caption, Twitter thread, Goodreads shelf, YouTube video, whatever works for you! You are NOT locked into these books, it’s just something to get you started!

SIGN UP using the form below! Sign-ups will stay open all year long so you can join at any time.

READ backlist books and knock them off your TBR!

SHARE your updates on social media!

As a part of the Beat the Backlist reading challenge, you and your Housemates can join forces to see who will come out on top at the end of the year. This mini challenge is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. Not participating has no impact on anyone else.

To sign up for this mini challenge, please complete the Beat the Backlist Reading Challenge sign-up form and select your Hogwarts House. Read more about the Hogwarts House mini challenge by clicking HERE.

I created a separate item in my blog menu for the beat the backlist challenge, so I can publish update-articles throughout the year in which I want to recap on what I’ve been able to finish reading already, etc.

I’m really looking forward to start this challenge in January 2019 and to also, hopefully, finish it before the end of 2019 haha! I’ll be creating a tbr list soon and I’ll share it with you guys. I’m looking forward to see which books are going to end up on your beat the backlist tbr, if you’re participating.

Do you like participating in challenges like these? Don’t hesitate to sign up then for the Beat the Backlist 2019! Aside from tackling your tbr, there’s an entire community in which you can communicate with readers from all around the world, which is pretty awesome I think!

With Love,
Melissa ♥

I’ve decided to make each month Themed reading. January will be magic and urban fantasy, February will be YA something (haven’t decided) and so on.

I don’t even want to talk about how terrible I did in this challenge this year!! I wish you the best of luck in 2019. I’m still undecided if I’m going to try again…

Good luck! This sounds great. I must say my TBR is not that big, I’ve read almost all the books I own already (which is also kind of frustrating sometimes haha), so I am not going to join this challenge.

I need to read my way through my backlist too! Luckily I don’t own too many unread books, but there are enough that it makes me feel guilty lol. Here’s hoping both of us can get through our backlist!

P.S. I’m here from the Illumicrate Club

I did well this year since i read a ton of backlist books anyway haha. I am not participating the challenge for that reason and that the challenge always kind of stagnates in the middle of the year when the host can’t keep up (which I understand).
